11+ Exam Day: A Checklist for Parents
After months of preparation, exam day itself is mostly about staying calm and letting your child show what they can do. Here’s a simple checklist.
The night before
- Pack everything needed (pencils, water, any required documents) so the morning is stress-free.
- Keep the evening relaxed — a light review at most, then an early night. Cramming now does more harm than good.
- Aim for a full night’s sleep; rest matters more than one last practice paper.
On the morning
- A proper breakfast — steady energy helps concentration.
- Leave plenty of time so arrival is calm, not rushed.
- Keep your own nerves in check — children absorb parental anxiety, so project calm confidence.
A few reassuring words
Remind your child to read questions carefully, keep an eye on the clock, and move on from anything tricky rather than getting stuck. Above all: doing their best is enough. A relaxed child thinks more clearly and remembers more.
After the exam
Keep it light. Ask how they felt rather than grilling them on answers, and do something nice together. Whatever the result, they’ve worked hard — and that deserves recognition.
